English

In summer of 2017, within 30 days of arriving in Los Patos, Dominican Republic, we began a summer program teaching English to the public for free. The first day we started with 4 students. At the end of one week we had over 80 enrolled. Out of that program 15 people became proficient and now we employ up to five to assist us teaching in the summers and two have continued as part of our full-time team in the schools.

We continued teaching during the school year at night welcoming all who had the desire to learn. We quickly learned the public schools offered English as well. However, the only problem was the teachers did not speak English. So we began to assist them in their classes and eventually, we were asked to take over their entire English program. We wrote the curriculum and our team sprung into action.

The public school system in the Dominican Republic is rated 168 out of 169 countries. It is evident they desperately need help.

Since starting our program in the Los Patos community and public schools, the government has finished their capital campaign and we now are in a new school building. However, students still lack books.

One of our visitors last year was compassionate to assist us and looked for book donations for the library. We recently received almost 300 books for the new library. Thank you for the persistence and dedication of all who have encouraged Scholastic Books donations.

All curriculum we create is based in scripture and we are free to proclaim the love of Jesus Christ as we teach.
